How to set performance objectives?

Research has shown that Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Realistic and Time-bound goals leads to better results (S.M.A.R.T.)

S

SPECIFIC

The objective is clear and concrete and describes an observable action or behaviour, or an observable outcome.

M

MEASURABLE

You can measure when the goal has been achieved using a system, method or procedure.

A

ACHIEVABLE

The goal is challenging, but possible.

R

RELEVANT

The goal meaningfully contributes to larger objectives like the overall mission.

T

TIME-BOUND

The goal has a clear start and end date.

Set yourself clear goals before taking action!

Choose now the 2 most important projects you are currently working on and check if the goals are SMART.

Take pen and paper and note whether your goals for
these projects follow the SMART principle.
